Houston, Texas based band Vodi is bringing a new twist on music from the 70's and 80's with a more modern indie sound. Vodi consists of members Tom Lynch (vocals, guitarist), Haley Lynch (guitarist, background vocals), David Lascoe (keyboard), Austin Sepulvado (keyboard), E. Marshall Graves (bassist), Tank Lisenbe (drummer, percussion), and Gus Alvarado (drummer, percussion). We interviewed the band to learn more about their debut album 'Talk', their music video for their song 'Pressure', and their upcoming performance at Bloom Music Festival plus much more!

When did you guys first come together to make the band and how did that come about?

"I don’t think there was really a moment. I was more over time. The drummer, Tank, and I started the project and to play live shows we needed more hands. So we got our friends to play. Then I met a ravishingly attractive, witty, razor sharp lady who went under the name Dollie Barnes and asked her to join the band. And then we got married. We haven’t had any kids yet and no mom it’s not going to happen any time soon, yes we plan on it, it’s just not the right time, what was the question?"

In your own words, how would you describe your music?

"It’s as if someone used instruments and voices to collectively make a focused sound, but not quite as good as Bruno Mars."

This past November you released your debut album, Talk. What was the process like creating it? Did you hit any bumps in the road at all or did everything go fairly smooth?

"Well, it was a long process. Like most bands we did it in a studio and I’d say it was rather smooth. Generally speaking, we are very amiable people. Except our bass player Marshall. He thinks the earth is flat but we keep him in the band because everyone is wrong from time to time. I actually don’t know if he thinks it’s flat but he likes to make people think he might think it is. I’ve researched it. It’s round."

You also just released your new music video for your song Pressure. Can you tell us a little about the video and how the concept came about?

"We had almost no budget and no dance moves, so we made the worst possible decision we could’ve and made a video of us dancing to the song. David our keyboard player, his face says 'I dance' but his body says 'I’m not quite sure we’ve practiced this before'."

In March you will be performing at the In Bloom Music Festival alongside artists Beck, Martin Garrix, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. Are you nervous at all?

"No, not nervous. Beck is a little nervous. He called me about his pants choices for the show, sequins, no sequins, what about my hair, etc. etc., none of that actually happened and I’m very excited about seeing Beck."

Are there any goals that you hope to achieve as a band?

"Get rich. And ripped. Rich and ripped is the goal. That way when we retire from music, we can start a fitness brand. But for now we’re focused on the music side of things."

Is there anything else that we can expect from you in the near future?

"Mostly more music and touring. We have a video for our single 'Talk' in the works as well, so keep your eyes peeled and thank you for the interview. You all are wonderful!"
